Former Christian Heritage Party leader Graham Capill was assaulted outside the Christchurch District Court after one of his first appearances in court on child sex charges. His assailant, Daniel McNally, just happened to be at court this particular day and took it upon himself to assault the then police prosecuter. Capill's lawyer, Jonathan Eaton, was walking with his client when the attack from McNally came out of the blue. Eaton did a fine job of restraining McNally till court security arrived and Capill could depart the scene. At a later court appearance Capill pleaded guilty to multiple child sex charges and has now been sentenced to jail.
